Reports to Antarctica Program Maintenance Manager and Director of Maintenance as applicable
Location: McMurdo, Antarctica
Summary
The A&P Mechanic will maintain, repair and inspect aircraft to ensure safe operations within guidelines set by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
Essential Functions

- Performs scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on aircraft.
- Operates all required ground support equipment.
- Ensures proper working condition of mechanic systems before flight.
- Maintains records of maintenance, repairs, inspections and any reports related to parts or services.
- Inspects and examines engines, rotor and tail-rotor blades, hoses, hydraulics, airframe and components to identify cracks, corrosion or other defects.
- Consults manufacturer and company maintenance manuals and specifications to identify correct operations and specifications for replacements or repairs.
- Installs new parts to replace or repair defective or recalled parts or to enhance the performance of the aircraft; performs these tasks efficiently and to specifications.
- Repairs - Composite / sheet metal as needed.
- Identifies and resolves mechanical problems based on visual inspections or reports from pilot or other crew members.
- Collaborates, as needed, with other A&P mechanics or appropriate personnel for the completion of various tasks.
Additional Job Duties (as assigned)
- Train new mechanics on policies and procedures of maintenance department.
- Data entry for RAMCO implementation and/or audits of maintenance records and policies.
- Other administrative tasks as assigned.
Education and Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- A&P mechanic certification through the FAA.
- Sufficient oral, verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience with rotor-wing aircraft, specifically AS350 and Bell 212 platforms.
- Valid passport (U.S. citizenship not mandatory) Valid driver's license.
Supervisory Responsibility
This position can possess basic supervisory level responsibility.
Physical Demands
This position requires pre-employment certification, verifications, and medical testing. Continuing employment in this position is contingent upon meeting and completing all contract requirements.
- Willingness and ability to deploy to Antarctica for extended periods.
- You are required to PQ (Physically Qualify) for this position to the USAP medical and dental standards. The NSF also requires that you have a current COVID vaccine and required booster, and adhere to any changes in NSF vaccination requirements.
- Successful completion of drug screening and background check required by employer
- Successful completion of Federal Background Check required by the NSF.
- Must be willing and able to lift and move items, parts, assemblies, and equipment up to the safety regulation maximum as required by the position.
- Must be willing and able to perform physical activities including heavy lifting, climbing in and out of equipment, crawling, and working outdoors in extreme cold as required by the position.
Pre-employment certification, verification, and medical testing are required for this position. Compensation is provided for up to three days of actual time spent completing these requirements. This offer is contingent upon meeting and completing all contract requirements.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
Positions are offered on a contract basis, paid bi-weekly with a work schedule of six 12-hour days per week, as assigned, under the NSF program. Compensation will be provided for all days spent on ice. The duration of the contract will align with the assigned shift schedule, typically consisting of approximately 90 days on ice.

Travel will be required to location McMurdo Station and Surrounding Field Locations, Antarctica
